I am a 42-year old husband and father. I was an avid computer gamer and DOF, F-stops and the like were foreign to me until my wife introduced me to photography.

I began shooting during the latter part of March 2010 and quickly became addicted to it. I started this blog to share my journey and to learn along the way. Special thanks to my wife Eng who encouraged me and to all my friends in Blogosphere who shared their knowledge and taught me to further this craft.

potpourri's little mystery

This tiny bug is around 6mm. long and has 12 legs....And yes it was a potpourri mix this bug was lumbering around. Any idea what this bug is called?

I can't help you name it... I wouldn't want it in my house, though. I'd be screaming BUGGGGGG if it was. ;)

I have no idea what it is but you capture it beautifully!

Gardening in a Sandbox

Your little friend may be a sowbug/pillbug. He would have 7 pairs of legs and be grey brown. They like damp places like under flowerpots. He will do no damage. His job is to breakdown organic matter. Your poupouri may be his life work. Valerie

Wow! Great shot of your little friend!

A Garden of Threads

Sorry, do not know what it is but a great shot.

What a neat photo and a cool looking bug.

Another great macro. It does look like a pillbug as Valerie says. Otherwise known as a woodlouse. Like how their segmented armour shows up on this pic.

Glad he's yours, nice little bug, nice little bug stay there.

OK, as much as I like taking macro shots...I don't think I would have let Mr Bug hang around long enough for me to get the camera! Great macro, had to look closely to see what it was.

I am debating what macro lens to get and wondering what you used here. I don't usually see people getting this close to their subject - and I like getting really close unless, of course, it is a bug. :)

gee, great shot! But like Rebecca, Mr. Bug will be gone before i get to the camera:) My MYM is here.

I can't say I know what kind of insect that is, but your photo is incredible!

I am not familiar with that kind of bug. Must be one that lives in your native area. You did a fabulous job on the picture capturing so many details. Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. Best wishes on your future blogs.

Your shot is a stunner, Dave. I have no idea what it is, but I can tell you it is not an insect. Insects only have 6 pair of legs, spiders 8. I was lured into looking at some of your prior photos and they are lovely. I hope you are having a wonderful day. Blessings...Mary

when we were little we called these bugs 'pill bugs' because if we touched them they would roll into a ball. not an official name...

Anonymous

in oz i've always know it as a slater...but then again it may just have been the name my dad gave it. we used to love touching them to make them roll up when we were kids

eta...looks like i was right, did a search for slater bug on google.
