I am a 42-year old husband and father. I was an avid computer gamer and DOF, F-stops and the like were foreign to me until my wife introduced me to photography.

I began shooting during the latter part of March 2010 and quickly became addicted to it. I started this blog to share my journey and to learn along the way. Special thanks to my wife Eng who encouraged me and to all my friends in Blogosphere who shared their knowledge and taught me to further this craft.

this is very special indeed ... I love the bird's view ... is it in the tower of a church or castle? the light looks magic ... the boy is showing the proportion of size very effectively ... congratulations!

Carolina

Yep, love the angle of this shot. So you were upside down, hanging from the ceiling?

Hi Dave another fab image yet again. I was thinking about your dilemma over your insect photography. I looked at your fly image and see what you mean about the body. our set up seems to be working ok as your image is sharp and depth of field looks ok I zoomed in to check the detail. I think the lack of light is definitely the problem. You do not say whether this image was taken outside or indoors. I know that if shooting outside in bright condition try bracketing your images if possible and still using your flash as a fill in In dull conditions or inside this can be difficult as your set up will certainly reduce your light options. However a 2x converter will reduce image quality compared to extension tubes. The choice is yours I can't comment on Ring flash as I have never used one. Maybe another flash gun working in tandem with the on board one fired wirelessly and mounted on a mono pod might be the answer. It all costs of course. I hope this gives you food for thought let me know what you decide and also post some more of your insects I am a fan of this type of photography I have to be my son is an Entomologist.

You must be drawn to windows as I am to turrets on homes and buildings. Anything linear and interesting in architecture fascinates me. I love the perspective of this shot and being able to see the reflection of you and your camera. What a great way to wake up on a Saturday morning.

Love the whole set-up: the angle of the windows and perspective of the wall, and the person standing in the reflection of the light - very intriguing!
